Principles for Florida Water Management
9-10:30 AM, Saturday, Feb 25, 2012
University of Florida Levin College of Law
The Florida Conservation Coalition (http://floridaconservationcoalition.org) was formed when Bob Graham, Nathaniel Reed and a group of other state leaders and organizations with a long history of commitment to conservation became concerned about the direction of Florida environmental policy. This session will discuss the Legislative Session of 2011, the reason for the creation of the Florida Conservation Coalition, and the goals and priorities of the Coalition. There will be a contrast and comparison of the roles, performance and budgets of the Water Management Districts before and after 2011. A discussion will follow on the current views and attitudes of the Governor and the Legislature towards the districts. Finally, there will be a discussion with the audience of local conservation challenges and what can best be done to get the government more focused on conservation issues once again.
